Marfrig Units in Uruguay are authorized to export to Japan


São Paulo, February 8, 2019 - Marfrig Global Foods, one of the world’s leading beef producers, informs that its units located in the Uruguayan cities of Colonia, San José, Tacuarembó and Salto have been authorized to export fresh beef to Japan. "This is a great opportunity for the company in Uruguay, which after 19 years is resuming service to this market, which has extremely rigorous sanitary standards," said Miguel Gularte, CEO of Marfrig’s South America operation.

National Beef, which is part of Marfrig’s operations in North America, already is the leading exporter of chilled beef from the United Stated to the Japanese market. With these new authorizations, Marfrig also will be able to serve clients from its operations in Uruguay, drawing on its structure, knowledge and seasoned sales team, with offices in Chicago and Tokyo.

Today, Marfrig is Uruguay’s leading bee producer, with processing capacity of more than 700,000 head/year and over 3,000 employees in the country.

According to the USDA, Japan is the world’s third-largest beef importer.
